The design will use drought- and flood-tolerant plants while using water harvested from the building. Sean will discuss the design before giving workshop participants the opportunity to build a landscape from scratch together.

Why are the leaves yellow?  Which fertilizer would help get a healthier plant? If these questions are important to you, join us for an in-depth session designed for professionals working in the horticulture industry.  We will examine symptoms of nutrient deficiencies that are common on plants growing in the region – ornamentals, conifers and fruit trees – as well as methods to correct those problems.

All nutrients will be covered from nitrogen to iron to zinc, along with picture samples.  As a bonus, we will discuss how to read the laboratory reports of leaf samples. Expect to leave the session with new ideas for your operation.

Cannabis is not like any other crop. Many pests love to feed on the leaves, stems and roots but growers are very limited in how they can control these problems. In this workshop, attendees will learn to identify the most common pests found on cannabis plants, covering not only the different life stages of the pests but also the kinds of damage they cause and ways to scout for them. Management tools from biological control agents, approved pesticides and cultural practices will be covered.  This will be a very applied session with tools growers can take back to their facility and implement right away.

Can we maintain lawns without using toxic pesticides?  The answer is “yes”, but a successful program requires a sound understanding of many cultural practices.  Join us as we discuss these questions and review the important requirements for specific pest problems, especially the common weeds.  Expect to leave with ideas you can implement immediately.

This workshop will be of interest to commercial landscapers and gardeners wanting in-depth information on the management of weeds and other turf pests. Part of the workshop will be hands-on, centering on identification and management of common weeds, insects and diseases in BC.  There will also be a review of the new IPM guide for turf managers, published by BC’s golf course associations.
